Abstract:
The violation of human rights is a serious crime. Information about it are difficult to obtain and to verify. State intelligence agencies deal with this task only according to instructions of their government and therefore they often ignore or tolerate this breach of international law. Non-state actors, however, can search and document without regard to nation-states. At the present time it appears that most of the necessary information can be acquired by private researchers: Satellite photos, videos about the conflicts, databases, sources on the ground: Private actors can use them for litigable documentary and short campaigns. Commercial private intelligence firms offer more: They can monitor the communication of suspects and track their financial transactions. Today it seems that the necessary information about human rights violations can be obtained and analyzed by private actors – independent from politics.

Ich las im Qualitätsmedium T-Online vor ein paar Tagen über Mateusz Piskorski. Dieser sei in in Polen inhaftiert „wegen Spionage für russische und chinesische Geheimdienste an – er pflegt auch enge Kontakte zu deutschen Politikern“. Natürlich bedarf es einer gewissen Intensität und Tiefe, was die Recherchen dazu angeht, aber möglicherweise haben die dafür zuständigen Leute etwas verschlafen oder das

Man fühlt sich schon beinahe in die Zeiten des Kalten Krieges, beispielsweise die McCarthy Ära versetzt: Überall russische Spione! Ich will allerdings nicht die Bedrohung herunterspielen und es trifft auch meiner Einschätzung nach zu, dass sich Russland seit einiger Zeit besonders bemüht. Why is there such a fuss about the leaking of the planned meeting between José Casimiro Morgado - director of the EU Intelligence and Situation Centre (INTCEN) - and colleagues from the Taiwanese intelligence service? One can only smile at the hectic chatter about this. On the one hand, it is once again frightening how little expertise there is in the media on Taiwanese intelligence architecture and how this ignorance is concealed with painfully clueless presentations.
